Negotiate Better Brand Deals

Brands count on creators not knowing what a deal is worth. This is the other side of that: how to run the conversation, what to charge, the extras you're probably giving away for free — and the exact words to send back.

Benchmarks verified Aug 2026 · 6 stages · 10 ways to charge more · 10 ready-to-send scripts
20–100%+
what usage & exclusivity
are worth on top of base —
money most creators give away
01

The deal, stage by stage

Every brand deal runs the same six beats. Click any stage for the move, the leverage, and the trap.

How to read it. Left to right is the order a deal actually happens in. Click any stage — the panel shows exactly what to say, what you can push on, and the mistake that caps your pay.

02

What to charge — the calculator

Priced the way TikTok Shop deals actually work: your lifetime GMV sets a lean flat fee, the extras stack on top, and your commission rides along on every sale. Anchor from it; don't treat it as a promise.

Flat fees run lean on purpose — most of your income is commission. This is just the fee on top.
1
0
Your benchmark range
$350–$850
Aim to land near $550
Flat fee at $500K GMV$550
Target flat fee$550
Open at $850. You’ll often land near $550. Below $350, cut a deliverable or shorten usage instead of just dropping the price. And remember your commission stacks on top — the flat fee is only half the deal.

This is the flat brand-deal fee only — your affiliate commission stacks on top of it, never instead. Shop flat fees run lean (even a $1.5M-GMV creator averages around $750/video) because the real money is commission plus the extras. Anchor from it, then adjust.

03

The extras — what you can charge more for

Your post is the cheapest thing in a deal. This is where the real money is. Name each one; price each one.

Lifetime GMV
your #1 lever
On TikTok Shop, brands pay for proven sales, not follower count. Lead every pitch with your GMV and what you’ve sold for similar products — it justifies a rate a bigger creator who can’t convert will never get.
Usage rights
+25–120%
Where and how long they can run your content, incl. Spark Ads. Organic video is one price; the right to run it as a paid ad is another. Price it by term — and never say yes to “perpetuity” without a big premium.
Exclusivity
+20–100%
You agree not to work with their competitors for a window. That’s lost income you’re insuring against — charge for it, and keep the window short and the category narrow.
Whitelisting
+30% / 5–20% ad spend
They run paid ads from your handle, using your face and credibility at scale. Separate paid right — either a flat premium or a cut of the ad spend.
Extra channels
+15% each
Your video reposted to their IG, YouTube, or website is new distribution you weren’t paid for. Each destination is an add-on.
Rush timelines
+20–30%
Need it live in under 72 hours? That reshuffles your whole schedule. Speed is a premium, not a favor.
Raw / no watermark
add-on fee
Raw footage, no logo, or files they can re-edit hand over control of your work. Bill it separately — they’re buying more than a post.
Bundles & retainers
volume + lock-in
Three to six videos, or a monthly retainer, is steady income. Discount lightly for volume in exchange for a locked commitment — not a fire sale.
Performance / commission
stacks on top
For TikTok Shop especially, keep your affiliate commission on top of the flat fee — or add a bonus tied to sales. You get paid to post and to convert.
Renewal & re-runs
new fee each term
When a usage window ends, the content stops running — or they pay again. Don’t let old deals run for free; renewals are some of your easiest money.
04

Say it back — copy-paste scripts

Stage 1They ask your rate first
Great question! My rate depends on the full scope — deliverables, where you’ll use the content, exclusivity, and timeline all move it. If you can share what you’re picturing and the budget range you’re working within, I’ll put together a proposal that fits.
Stage 2The lowball offer
Thanks for the offer! That’s below where I price a partnership of this scope. My content has driven [$ GMV] in sales for [niche] products, so it tends to convert — not just rack up views. For what you’re describing, I’m at [$X]. Happy to adjust the scope to fit a tighter budget if that’s easier.
Stage 2“Exposure / free product”
I appreciate you thinking of me! I love the product, but I only take on paid partnerships — my audience and the work that goes into a video are what make it valuable to a brand. If there’s budget for a paid collab, I’d be glad to send rates.
Stage 3Price the usage rights
Happy to include ad usage! The organic post is [$X]. Adding [90 days] of paid usage across [platforms] is [+$Y]. If you’d like it longer or in perpetuity, I can quote that too — it just carries a higher premium since the content keeps working for you.
Stage 3Price exclusivity
I can do exclusivity in [category]. Since it means turning down competitor work for [3 months], that’s [+$Y] on top. If we keep the window shorter or the category narrower, I can bring that down.
Stage 4Pitch a bundle / retainer
If you’re thinking beyond one video, I’d suggest a bundle: [3 videos] over [6 weeks] at [$X] — a better rate per video than one-offs, and more consistent presence for [brand]. I also offer a monthly retainer if you want an ongoing partner.
Stage 5Hold your number
I hear you on budget. Rather than lower the rate, I’d rather adjust the scope so it still works for both of us — we could drop exclusivity, shorten the usage window, or do [2] videos instead of [3]. Which of those works best on your end?
Stage 6Ask for the raise (renewal)
It’s been great working together! Since our last collab, I’ve grown to [X followers] and my [product] content has driven [result]. For this next round, my rate is [$X] — and I’d love to keep the momentum going.
Follow-upWhen they go quiet
Hi [name] — just floating this back up! Still excited to work on [campaign]. If the timing or budget has shifted, no worries at all — just let me know and we can find something that works. Otherwise I can hold [date] for you.
Stage 6Confirm the terms
Amazing — excited to get started! To confirm what we agreed: [# deliverables], usage of [where + how long], exclusivity [yes/no], fee of [$X], paid 50% up front and 50% on delivery, net 30. If you can reply to confirm or send a quick agreement, I’ll lock in your date.

These are benchmarks, not guarantees. Real rates move with engagement, niche, conversion, region, and how badly a brand wants you. Use the numbers to anchor high and negotiate from strength — not as a fixed price list.

Not legal or financial advice. Contracts — especially usage, exclusivity, and payment terms — are binding. Read every one, and get anything with "perpetual," "exclusive," or "all media" reviewed before you sign.

17 of these 21 boxes don't need you

Every box marked VA is admin — uploading, tagging, captioning, scheduling, pulling reports. None of it needs your face or your judgment, and all of it is what actually eats the week.

Find a VA through NexusPoint ↗ ref

Referral link — I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. They place vetted offshore assistants, editors and social managers; you book a discovery call and they shortlist. Rates aren't published, so ask on the call.

Only you can do this
  • Film it. Your face, your hands, your voice.
  • Re-record the intro and outro in the four cuts. A VA can strip and scrub; the new voiceover is yours.
  • Choose the rail — Levanta or Mavely or native Amazon, per product. A VA can surface the rates; the call is yours.
Everything else is delegable
  • Publishing and syndication — the whole Publish column, plus the Repurpose.io workflow once it's set up.
  • Amazon admin — storefront uploads, product tagging, onsite submissions, international re-uploads.
  • The capture layer — building deep links, writing captions and pinned comments, wiring and maintaining the DM automation.
  • The always-on half of Set the rate — the daily Creator Connections accept, the ViralVue run, and the earnings report.

Minute estimates are benchmarks — time your own first three videos and replace them. Rules, rates and pricing change without much notice; everything here was checked against the platforms' own published pages in August 2026.

Affiliate disclosure. Tool links marked REF are affiliate or referral links — I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you, and every one works the same if you go direct. Cha-Ching and Amazon's own programs are named here and pay me nothing; the CutAI and JoyLink links are my referrals. Disclose in your own videos near the start, spoken and on screen.
